From Friday, 16 December 2011 to Tuesday, 10 January 2012, at the Fabbrica del Vapore, Sala Colonne, the video projections and photographic collection that recount the daily life and work of the inmates of the Casa Circondariale Milano "San Vittore" prison can be visited free-of-charge. The exhibition was created by three emerging creative talents currently attending the Accademia delle Belle Arti, under the supervision of Professor Paola Di Bello, the official coordinator of the two-year specialisation in Photography.

Carolina Farina, Filippo Messina and Gloria Pasotti are the photographers behind the photographs exhibited, the result of a working project that involved 21 inmates of the prison, whose images will be projected in the exhibition area during the entire period. The iniziative was promoted by Casa Vinicola Caldirola in collaboration with the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera, the management of the Casa Circondariale Milano "San Vittore" and the Centro Territoriale Permanente "Cavalieri" Learning Centre.

The exhibition provides an unprecedented insight into what happens within the prison walls and represents a truly creative escape of what is happening "inside" to the world "outside". It is also a demonstration of how even an inmate in a restricted environment can be free to be creative. The exhibition is an educational journey that provides something in return to the inmates for their efforts: the photographs feature on postcards that can be sent to the inmates' families and friends over the Christmas period with a message of hope that goes beyond the physical confines of the prison and that is witness to the importance and educational and therapeutic effectiveness of artistic projects carried out in penitentiary institutes.
